I was in the middle of filming ‘Rescue Mediums’ TV show in Canada along with my partner on the show – our catch phrase by the way is ‘psychics who make house calls’, although in this case it could be the psychics who make hotel calls. As I live in England, I fly backwards and forwards every few weeks to film, not on the proverbial broomstick or nimbus 2000 I hasten to add, although that would be incredible fun and worthy of a show all of its own. As you can imagine the schedule is very hectic and spending so much time away its nice to have a home from home while I am working. Our bosses have always looked after us really well and initially we had individual hotel suites which were always top class, and then eventually we had our own apartments near to each other which were amazing and come with their own stories…Anyway I digress.
It was during one of the earlier stays in my suite at the Metropolitan Hotel in downtown Toronto that I had a very strange encounter. My husband Steve was staying with me at the time, and no he wasn’t strange at all ha ha. I had a day off and on waking in the morning we were deciding whether to order room service or go downstairs to the restaurant for breakfast. Being a suite, the bedroom and bathroom was separate to the living room, and while my hubby took a shower, I attempted to go to the lounge. The door would not open, and the door catch was not on. I couldn’t understand it, I had opened and closed that door many times with no problems whatsoever. I shouted to Steve for him to take a look, and although he tried and tried the door remained well and truly locked. Thinking that there must be a malfunction with the lock, I was about to phone the front desk when I heard a chuckling sound from behind me. Turning round, I expected Steve to be laughing and coming out with some cheeky quip, but he had gone back into the bathroom to get dressed.
I then felt my bottom being pinched by unseen hands, and I knew straight away who it was – my Father in Law in spirit! He had a wicked sense of humour, and was letting us know that in no uncertain terms that he was with us. “Harvey Koshnick” I said, “have you been messing with the door lock?”. Again the chuckling sound, and I smiled as I visualised his twinkling eyes thinking he was being very funny and clever.
“its your Dad” I told Steve “hes up to his tricks again”. Steve started to chuckle too, “well he knows that I would love to be locked in a bedroom with my beautiful wife” he laughed. I smiled back at him “Well 2 is company and 3 is a crowd, so you can just open that door right away Harvey” I said. Within seconds we heard a clicking noise, and going over to the door Steve tried the handle. The door opened straight away. “thanks Dad” he said.
The next day I had to work and was leaving very early in the morning. Steve, an American, absolutely loves baseball and couldn’t be in Toronto without going to a Blue Jays game and so had planned ahead and bought his ticket online to a game later that day.
I got back really late in the night following a successful spirit rescue. I opened the door quietly thinking that as it was so late and that Steve would be asleep. However he was sat in the lounge waiting for me. “I had the strangest thing happen to me” he said (strange things always seem to happen don’t they ha ha) he continued to tell me that he had gone to watch the game at the Rogers Centre, and had thoroughly enjoyed it.
He left the stadium and started to walk back to the hotel, when all of a sudden he felt his trouser leg being pulled from behind. He stopped and turned round but there was no one there. He started to walk forward again and had only gone a few yards when the same thing happened again. It was a very definite tug, and with some force. I asked him who he thought had done that to him, and without hesitation he said “my Dad”. He then went on to explain to me that the action had literally stopped him in his tracks, physically as well as mentally and emotionally.
He realised that he had been walking in the wrong direction and his Dad had obviously known that and was trying to put him on the right track. He said he had an overwhelming sense of his Dad being with him, and knew that he was guiding him in the right direction. So he turned around and retraced his steps, which led him to exactly where he should have been and was able to find his way back to the hotel.
Steve at that time was not sure that spirit could connect with us, and although he would like to have believed that there was life after death, he had needed his own proof. Even though we had experienced the door incident the previous day, he had been trying to find a logical explanation for that. But when he literally had his trousers pulled so strongly from behind, together with thought of his Dad, he realised that this was the proof that he had needed.
Since then Harvey has popped in on a number of occasions to let us know he is around us, and he is very welcome, providing he leaves us the key if he decides to lock us in again !
