A Ghost Story of the Best Kind

“This is the essence of all sciences - which you should know who you will be when the Day of Reckoning arrives.” ~ Rumi

At a young age my little body was caught in mid-air by unseen hands only to land safely on the hard floor. This floor was part of a house in Badasse, Austria, in which my family purchased for use in the summers. It was haunted. Of course.

I was sitting in a high chair with no belts back then. You know the kind where it’s the old-fashion beautiful woodworking’s and carvings of Europe. I was placed not too close to the breakfast table where my family was sitting for a meal.

Apparently I could not sit still, and began moving about. I was falling out of the highchair headed straight to the hard, ceramic-tiled floor. Everyone witnessed my body being manipulated by unseen hands to slow me down almost coming to a slow hault. Then, releasing me gently to the ground unhurt or unphased as to what just transpired.

Later on as a teen, my parents shared this story with me as I had a hundred questions!

Stories told by my Parisian grandmother had the sight as so did her sister, and was always being sat down upon when sleeping at night. They’d hear the hallway creak, crackle and pop.

Whether nana would be visiting her dear, departed close friend, Chef Pierre Frane in his Hampton’s home or elsewhere…‘they’ always seem to sit by her for a while. The chef’s mother, Betty, was a close Parisian friend of my grandmothers who was the one doing the sitting.

During my first night there, nana told me of the time she awoke in the middle of the night only to feel the presence of something or someone in the room with her.

What does this mean to the believer, the sceptic and all those in-between? For the believer, it is possibly goose bumps knowing of other experiences with invisible forces. It could be the fascination of what happens when we cross over.

For the sceptic, it is possibly more material to push off and dismiss as more rubbish: the ability to rationalize what he or she cannot prove or disprove in some cases. That to, is a type of fear but going in the opposite direction of the believer. This fear of the unknown existing can be scary due to the sole fact that when we try and sometimes fail to scientifically explain the cause, we throw it up in the air and walk away while it has to land somewhere. Just not in the sceptic’s path!

As for the in-between’s sitting off and on the fence, it could be only if they are to experience a cold hand reaching out to touch their shoulder or hear a noise where none should be heard. Some may have a feeling that they’re not alone and shut down all five senses going into panic mode. It’s all relevant to the individual, their experience or their lack of, their beliefs and faith and changing in time as they grow as people.

I know people who have sat on that fence, only to flip over when something occurred. Or, at the very least begin to become more aware of what their purpose is in that life?

What does it all really mean? To each of us it means something similar, different or half and half. Whichever way one goes in this arena, I do believe we are all surrounded everyday by unseen guides waiting for us to stop and listen.

Perhaps then, some of us may hear what they have to say in hopes of paving a better path ahead for us in need. These are the spirits that connect with every person on earth as they are assigned to our individual cases. In any case, it is all positive thought and belief, which in turn, bodes well for a healthier society in which to raise our families in and use our time we have left on earth, fruitfully.

Afterwards, we continue on to the next life as it never stops. Death is only the ending of the physical vessel on a short-term lease. The soul moves on and goes on to new beginnings again. My own experiences have taught me to question more, seek more data and be open to it all. My first account of a ghost was helping me by saving my young life. To this day, I think of what she’d look like and so I get an impression of her. I still thank her as often as I can. Yes, ‘she’ was a she.

After our haunted Austrian home with the Sound of Music back dropped setting, was clearly occupied…my father researched it and we found out the history and owners. The wife wanted to stay in the home and thank goodness she did!

I don’t know if that house even stands today but I hope she was able to move on from the earthly plane
