Housemate From The Past
Back in 2000 I moved into a wonderful old house in the UK, during my time as Cabin Crew with BMI British Midland. The House was situated on an old village green, very leafy and a very pretty area to have the opportunity to live in.
The house dated back to the 1930’s possibly further, it had been many things in its former life, a family home and also the local shop then back to being a home again to what it is to this very day. I moved into The Green in July 2002, it was a fantastic hot month and personally it was a good time for me and my career ahead, this is where I was meant to be.
I moved into the biggest of the bedrooms, which at one time was the former living room for the family that lived about the Green when it was a former shop; it was a huge space and one that was very welcome to me.
Five of us lived at the Green and many odd events happened during my time living there. I can recall being in my room watching TV documentary about the 9/11, my housemate knew of one of the crew on one of the United planes that crashed, when all of a sudden we heard a noise, it was only Leigh and myself in the house so we knew it couldn’t have been anyone else. We both looked over to my bedroom door which was shut at the time to see the handle moving on its own accord and then the door came open, as if someone was looking into the room, both Leigh and I thought this was very odd and strange and thought nothing more of it, although she was a little spooked out by it.
On another occasion, I woke up in the early hours to go to get a drink of water, as it was a very hot night as I was having trouble getting to sleep in the heat. When I got back into bed after a while I could hear very odd sounds coming from down stairs, my room was over the living room which was the former main area of the shop. I could hear low murmuring voices and the rustling of bags, a housemate in Bedroom 2 could also hear this. It was if the shop was busy with local chat and customers, with their shopping being packed into bags.
Many voices from nowhere were often heard at The Green and it was something that we got use to as well as lights going on and off a lot, bangs and knocks. This became day to day part of life living in the house, and I have to say that it was nice living in such a calm and warm feeling of a house, that was certainly cared for and loved by all those that lived at The Green even if we couldn’t see them.
